    Scrum, Fred is a basset not a beagle; that’s like a child trying to imitate a chopper using a motorised rotor-beany.

    I’ve often wondered something when I read this strip.

    What is it, exactly, that Basett Hounds are bred for? I would assume it has something to do with fox hunting. Is that so?

    One thing I do know about Bassets…they like to roll in anything smelly in order to disguise their own scent. ( I once saw a Basset hound roll on a dead fish for just that purpose. )

    It’s a practice Fred has engaged in at least once in this strip.
