Come on, Fred. Greyhound? No surprise as you said. He might be passing you in the race around the park, but challenge him to a tracking contest. You’d win paws down.

In my previous neighborhood there was a greyhound that occasionally got loose and I swear would exceed the speed limit for automobiles.

I’d be at the dog park with Cougar (a greyhound named after a car named after a cat) and someone would throw a ball for their dog. Cougar would be at the ball before the other dog was halfway there. Once the ball stopped rolling, though, he lost interest. He never did learn ‘Fetch’.

I think it is time for a rest, ‘Fred’, before you do ‘bodily harm’ to yourself ! ! ! !

I said yesterday that one of the dogs seemed to be a greyhound so Fred was right to say that he couldn’t win!

Some are built to hover the ground, some are built to cover it.

We love our two retired racing Greyhounds. Like I said yesterday, for the most part they are couch potatoes and take retirement very seriously! But they do like to get out and run on occasion, especially when they get to have play dates with other Greyhounds. All they need is a short 20-30 minute walk each day (which gets us out walking too). My understanding is that a Greyhound can run at about 45 miles per hour and will outrun a horse over a short distance. The Cheetah is the only land animal that is faster, so Fred has nothing to be ashamed of!

Any Captain America fan? “On your left!”

Meanwhile Marmaduke is the next comic in my feed so my brain was thinking a great Dane was lapping Fred. Reading the comments here made me realized what the strip actually said. Years ago a family in the neighborhood had 2 greyhounds. Both of our families had been stationed in Colorado before and I asked them if they were retired racing dogs. Sure enough. It was surprising how well they were with kids. I always thought the breed looked too skittish for young ones.

Our dachshunds once amused our dogsitter by trying to keep up with a whippet who was one of her other guests.
