    Heck, humanity survived before television, radio, telegraph, internal combustion engines, steam engines….but I’m kind of glad we have them.

    You don’t miss what you don’t know exists. I was born in 1949. Before the Internet, I didn’t miss it and survived just fine. Now, I am dependent on it and would miss it terribly if it disappeared for some reason.

    My Aunt was an operator in the town 5mi away, that was the switching center for this area. We were ring 3 on the party line. I’m old. :(

    Yes, amazing that we survived. I always say I was born BC – before computers. Like stimaddog5 I have become very dependent on the internet and would be lost without it. A great retirement time waster but I love it!

    That one-size-fits all phone was owned by AT&T. It’s lease was included in the bill, kind of like cable modems now. Most places it was a party line with at least one of your neighbors on the same line.
