We allow our son to watch tv right after school to give him some way to unwind. Then we do homework, then dinner (sometimes we swap those two things), bath, a little more tv, then bed. Seems to work out. Son is doing well in school and tv lets him decompress. We all need that. Sometimes he chooses to play video games or playing with his “toys” (plushes, action figures, etc) instead of watching tv and that’s fine too. Kids need a way to unwind as much as adults do. Just so you use time-management and get the important things done (homework, dinner, bath) and still get them to bed on time, we see nothing wrong with tv, video games, toys between those things.
