When my daughter got her associate degree in psychology I reminder her of the old joke about degrees in liberal arts: they qualify you to ask “Would you like fries with that order?” But her degree qualified her to ask “Why would you like fries with that order?” She didn’t think that nearly as funny as I did. But it was accurate. Now she has a master in child psychology so she could be a school counselor but there are no positions available. That’s one of the first positions to be eliminated with budget cuts.
She could get a job as: a teacher, substitute teacher, tour guide in a museum, working for state-wide humanities & culture promotion, historical archives, historical writing, Smithsonian Institute, Library of Congress, working in an art gallery, curating art for displays and shows, a job with social and human services, pursue a job working with women’s rights and women’s law, work for a woman’s abuse shelter, work for the Red Cross or UNICEF. She could even pursue law school and focus on legal issues that pertain to women.
