Regarding the Dutch language commercial on the blog, Google Language Tools says the logo at the end, “Centraal Beheer,” means “Central Management,” while the text at the bottom of the screen reads,

“The insurance company from Apeldoornfor companies and individuals”

pcolli and Bill, all of a sudden 59 doesn’t seem so old. I was likewise chastised about my hair in 1969 after my sister did me the favor of a beautiful modern (for the time) haircut. That evening my mom cut it short enough for the school’s standard, I attended a boys’ Catholic high school. And yes, I’m staunchly lapsed, with Buddhist tendencies now.

In 1963 I was severely disciplined at school because I wanted to wear my hair like this. It was considered scandalously long, and I was more or less frogmarched to the barber shop…

I am confused by the General Tire ad on the blog. The main illustration suggests that they manufacture headlights, not tires.

    Re: DENIED!

When I read today’s cartoon Teresa’s objet d’art du jour and my eyes saw “Denied!”, my mind immediately envisioned The Mysterious Teresa, looking schoolmarmish, her hair pulled back severely with a pencil stuck through a bun, peering over eyeglasses that had slid down her nose, sternly pointing a ruler at Cheesy Mustache Man.

I’m curious. What did your imagination suggest to you about the source of the “Denied!” word balloon?

P.S. to all you longhairs. When I was that age I was a jock. If you had long hair you were different, and we hated different because that meant you could have been a doper, a poofter, a hippie, a sissy, or (worse still), a Democrat. We didn’t like anybody different from us and we damn sure didn’t like Democrats, so we verbally harassed you unless your sister was hot. If your sister was hot you weren’t bad different you were cool different, so you got a pass.

So, Teresa, you designed the connect-the-dots pattern to waste our time? I love your attention to detail, but since I didn’t try to connect the dots, you wasted your time! The world is now in balance.

Poor Johnny Diego! My dad was put in jail in Joplin, Missouri in the late 1960’s for having long hair. He was held over the weekend, until the barber had time to come and cut his hair. They had really good for in jail there, he says. Later on, I dated a guy named Keith from Joplin, who had incredibly long hair.
