From the military patches: “Setec Astronomy” is an anagram for “Too Many Secrets.” Cf. the 1992 film “Sneakers,” with Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier, James Earl Jones, Mary McConnell, River Phoenix, and Dan Aykroyd.
Holy moly! I was just using Google to help me say something in turtle for today’s comic and…Well remember those sites from the dark ages of the web…You know. The sites with row upon row of animated gifs of cartoon animals dancing to some tacky tune? They still exist. Angelfire does too and there’s a turtle one there.
I may even have my turtle club card around somewhere. If you remember Wally Boag from the Golden Horseshoe Revue, may he rest in peace, I recall asking him that one day (he was a family friend of long standing) and I got the correct answer.
Patches: The 509th patch is supposed to be from an electronics unit that tested the effctiveness of the 509th’s new stealth bombers. The Latin phrase means “Tastes like chicken.” The Latin on the other patch is supposed to mean “A secret squadron from deep in the night; don’t ask questions.”
Looking at the Joplin photos, I am struck by my visit last year to New Orleans. How come they haven’t been able to rebuild from something that happened almost 7 years ago? Of course, corruption had nothing to do with it.
You can bet on a limey humanist if you like, but my money’s on a 2,000 y.o. Blessed Virgin and her 193 y.o. friend who believe … ’IT’S TURTLES ALL THE WAY DOWN!”
Do you think Teresa had a hidden message in it, now that I think about it. She’s gone amiss, and if you re-read the strip, well, I don’t know. I read the strip but rarely all the comments, so you all know her better.
Agreed. The blog has not updated therefore it is not a GoComics issue. It would seem that Teresa has momentarily succumbed to the forces of evil. If it’s just those pesky psychopathic war criminals from the Andromeda galaxy again I’m sure she’ll overcome them.
I just heard from Teresa. She writes: “Borrowing a computer. Out of town. Family emergency. Kindly let my readers know on FA page. Hope to be back soon with a new FA and blog posts.”
miss you T and remember turtles are best known for, “slow and steady wins the race”. In the meanwhile I will pray to all the Saint Teresas out there, lame or not, plus my great Aunt Bess who was a Sister of Mercy, for a positive outcome.
Reading the comments, if, as it appears, Ms. Burritt is taking care of self and her own, I can only add that I hope she takes as much time as she needs. While her wit and creativity are sorely missed, I (and I suspect all her faithful readers) would rather be without her briefly and have her around for a long while.
