The number of comments is not a good measure of the number of people who participate in commenting. You can think of it as a conversation, but it’s really more of a set of intersecting monologues.
I think commenting is a form of heart-liking. It indicates the temporary, liminal brain activity of a certain small group of parallel-playing adherents. Beats a flat line by a long shot.
Sounds good to me, and no sarcasm at all in my reply here and now! My usual response is to click on the heart if it gives me anything, from a giggle (real or imagined!) to a thought that will steam for a bit in my head.
In the beginning, for me, the attraction to Froglandia was the sheer number and content of the commentary … not the heart-likes … that said, I gave this “toon” (among all the others) my first one because it’s evidently a badge of honor for the artists and I sometimes, almost, nearly, and occasionally concede and commit (insert smiley face here) …!
I always enjoy FA, but often don’t feel like commenting – although I like to read everyone else’s. I do try to remember to click the heart Like symbol to show that I really appreciate Teresa’s work ( almost ) everyday.
Hey. I wrote that! And it wasn’t “1 day ago”. Months ago? Many months ago? Back around (before? during?) the Frog Applause “troubles” (that thankfully were resolved in the right way)? I don’t remember exactly when and don’t think I can find out. But I know my own words.
I still believe that likes may be a “metric” that affects Saint Teresa’s well-being and therefore worth supporting (and it’s so easy). In general, I guess I do like to “heart” the comics I follow, just after any interior or exterior chuckle (at least) I get. I suppose I don’t always get the chuckle. I do think that, usually, the artists deserve whatever positive feedback I can give. I greatly admire their prolific continuous output, at the very least.
And, yes, the comments for me are often among the best parts of the uclick experience. I lurked for many years before having a profile or posting anything.
Anyhow, it’s great for my words to be immortalized (lamely, sort of). Thanks, Teresa! I very much LIKE Frog Applause (usually) and admire its creator (also lamely), all the time!
Guilty as charged. I have no defense other than that Frog Applause’s grand lameness distracts me from even seeing or acknowledging the sidebar. I would have more likely changed my ways with an admonishment and stern look from Grace, but I guess I’ll have to make do with this lame, indifferent cat.
Now, let’s not get catty about heart-likes. If Sister believes they will help Frog Applause, then just try to remember to do so (I freely admit that I have rarely done so on this or almost any of the strips I read daily).
Speaking for myself, I tend to forget to “like” even my favorite instances of my favorite comics. I “liked” this one because I’d been nudged, but I would have liked it anyway.

Cat is sleeping in the sun
Eyes take heed the colours call
Sunlight patterns touch the wall
Red kerchiefs sail and fall
Cat is sleeping in the sun
Dragon kite in the sky
Wheel and turns, spin and fly
Attacked by rooks who never fail
To cry the sound of fairy tales
The cat is walkin’ in the sun

Today’s strip looks like it comes from Bill’s garden. About the Cursive Cat—I’m not sure.

I don’t know how the algorithm works, but I suspect comments and “likes” are probably weighted fairly equally.
