I learned from somewhere that you turn the handle rearwards if you’re using a walking stick to assist your locomotion, and you turn the handle toward frontwards if you’re using a cane as a walking stick, you know, an accessory to your outward outfit.
When I was a young man and didn’t need them, I had an admirable collection of canes and walking sticks. Now that I’ve reached the age and stage where they’d be useful, I don’t have a single one!
For my sword-cane, accordingly, I choose one with a handle adaptable to fencing and the thrust home as I end the refrain.
And so, from left to right, 1 or 3 might suffice. Beware my wounding ways: Not so wide as a barn door nor so deep as a well, but ’twill do, ’twill suffice, ’tis sufficient….
Da Blog: speaking of sticks, great article on old golf clubs … when I read about the “ cleck” being closely compared to the modern day one and two irons, I was reminded of this famous quote by the great Lee Trevino:
“If you are caught on a golf course during a storm and are afraid of lightning, hold up a 1-iron ,,,

Shall a stick not have a blade hidden within?
