Once I was fully awake again, I felt pretty good. More rested than I usually feel after a nap. Less foggy. More focused. Like I was cut off from an interfering radio signal that imparted static to me consistently. I went to the kitchen and looked out the window. No cat. So it was just a dream after all, I thought. Just for curiosity’s sake, I rustled through my stores and found a handful of plastic packets of tuna, two years from expiry, according to their packaging, and imagined that I might make some tuna salad for dinner. Then I was startled by a meowing from the window. The cat was there. My carefully ordered concept of events was thrown into chaos.
