It is said that Jon keeps Garfield because he provides companionship for him, but as Odie seems to have been taken into Jon’s care from Lyman, Jon already has the perfect form of companionship that is not a vile curse on everything around him, and who does not, as Jon puts it, “eat, scratch, and destroy everything in sight”. Why does Jon keep that vile creature Garfield in his house?
