A stethescope is used in Liz’s profession as a veterinarian so it’s not quite the same as a man giving his wife a vacuum cleaner, implying that she needs to clean the house. One seems more demeaning to me than the other. But I guess everyone’s opinion would be different. But when I think of a household appliance or something used to clean house or do housework it shouldn’t be a gift from a husband to a wife implying the housework is all her work and none of his. It should be bought for the household in which anyone can use it.
