Here in KS some school which have A/C started earlier, another metro area voters voted on a bond which allowed to have A/C installed now metro area starts early. Can’t say about school buss’s though. Used to be for metro area would start 1 week before labor day with heat time factor involve with short days. Not anymore.
Our youngest brother was small for his age. We lived about 2 blocks from school so walking to school was expected. What was not expected was the first grade teacher. She took one look at my youngest bro and said he was too small to go to school. Little bro said fine and was watching cartoons when Dad came in with his coffee.

We rode the bus to school, but walked home because walking was quicker. Three miles and walking was quicker!

Bus? I ever tell you bouts the 6 miles in raging blizzard, uphill each way, barefoot, with 30 books for 6 hours homework and that was on a good day.
Sorry, had to say it.
