I bet Walt helped Abe write the Gettysburg address.

…remembering the writers who didn’t laugh at that, Abe later signed an Executive Order calling for the “Arrest and Imprisonment of Irresponsible Newspaper Reporters and Editors” and had them jailed.

Surprising that George could laugh with those false teeth.

I recently learned that the official name of the holiday in Alabama is “Washington and Jefferson’s Birthday,” even though Jefferson’s birthday is in April. And you just know they did that so you wouldn’t make the mistake of thinking it had anything to do with Lincoln.

I think that part of what Lincoln is saying is that his opponent should have said “Lying down on the job” for correct English, not “laying”. Hens lay, people lie down.

Except Washington didn’t actually campaign for President:

In the 1915 motion picture Birth Of A Nation, Abraham Lincoln is portrayed as being a bit dim witted and clueless. But the written evidence certainly seems to suggest otherwise.

Lincoln for a time before he became president took a pill that had mercury in it. Supposed to calm him down. It did the opposite and during the Lincoln vs Douglas debates he would fly into a rage. It bothered him so much he stopped about 7 years before he ran for the presidency.

Lincoln once defended a man who had killed another man’s dog with a pitchfork and claimed self-defense.

When Lincoln examined the plaintiff, he said, “The defendant killed your dog to defend himself from the attack. That is why he used the pitchfork.”

The plaintiff answered, “Why did he not come after my dog with the other end of the pitchfork?”

Lincoln responded, “Why did your dog not come after the defendant with his other end?”
