“mouth” is indeed “laughing gear” (or sometimes “laughing tackle”) in England. In Scotland, “mouth” is “blaming the ruddy English for everything from the weather to the failures of national sporting sides gear”…… especially at the moment.
Yanks and Brits DO speak different languages. I was at a soccer (football) match in England once and joined in when the crowd began chanting “The referee’s a wanker,” thinking “wanker” is another word for “nitwit.” My English host explained what it REALLY means, at which point I figured it was probably a good time for me to stop. If you’re wondering, do a Google search on that word…I won’t explain it here. Just think Pee Wee Herman in a darkened theater.
