GC, please start a vintage.classics version of this strip. Today’s whacko story lines and cartoonish artwork are not for fans who have been following Gil Thorp since 1958.
I don’t think changing this strip from what it was , to the mess it is today will bring newer and younger readers but will surely drive away old men like myself.
What’s wrong with calling Keri a “guy”? Is Keri dropping “they/them” in favour of “she/her” again? (Also, it’s a track meet, not a game, and track meets are rarely carried on the radio. More evidence of the author’s ignorance of sports…)
It is still not clear to me whether Gil was runover and injured, or suffered a heart issue, or both. Perhaps I will get used to it, but at first blush this woman’s art work is, ahem, not very good.
If you were listening to the game on the radio last night in Milford, OH, you would have heard the Eagles going to Lebanon to face the Warriors. You would have seen the Eagles go down to defeat after an epic battle of evenly matched teams by the score of 22-16. Milford’s record falls to 3-4 overall and 2-4 in the Valley (aka Eastern Cincinnati Conference). The loss broke the Valley tie for seventh place with the Warriors who took control of fifth place outright. Despite the setback the Eagles had a couple of positives to love: they improved to sixth in the Valley outright and are currently projected to be the eleventh seed in the brutal OHSAA Division 1, Region 4 playoff bracket.
Maybe everyone’s realization that Gil was in a coma that last couple of years and he’s just awakened and everything by Barajas was just delusional and Gil’s still married, still got the same “Leave it to Beaver” kids and he and his wife still coach all 13 sports at the school, etc. Usual solution for writer who wrote himself into a corner and does’t know how to resolve it.
It looks like they already got a new one to me. At the very least, Gil’s stay in the hospital left him rather emaciated. And speaking of rather, wouldn’t you rather be reading Mopped Up Thorp?

Who are these people? What type of program is being used to draw the faces now? They are almost indistinguishable lately.

Am I the only one who thinks it’s odd that the artist seems to draw everything well except faces?

P-1: Now, we know what Mr. Roger’s house looks like in that neighborhood.
P-2: Jami still needs both hands to compete with Gil’s one. Keri says she’d just as soon have a used one. New Dad’s are just too obtrusive.
P-3: Keri notices Gil is drifting off, again, as Daddy keeps trying to convince himself of an oft told lie.

Keri later says that although they don’t want a new dad there is a solid offer on the table for having two moms.

In P3, loving you guys is not sufficient. Keri wants affirmation that Gil gives them the proper respect of being his kids.
