I live along the rocky mountains and warm and sunny discribes most of our christmases too (hey 60ºF/15.5ºC is warm) and we get snow in July most years.
As all Melburnians know, we have four distinct seasons - every day. Yesterday we had only two - Winter and Spring, but that was in the eastern suburbs. Climate change has struck! The NT has Summer fire alert. Perhaps Oz is confused because it is a Southern Western Country.

of course here in denver colorado July snow only happens at altitudes over 7500 feet.
thats about the same altitude as Mount Kosciuszko.
