Does TV most often present a first-person or a third-person viewpoint? Or is it somewhere in between? Why antagonize the audience by making they themselves feel mocked? Better to make each viewer feel superior in their virtual engagement with the TV characters, in order to sell sponsored products. I suppose this idea goes all the back to the beginning of storytelling around ancient campfires.

It’s the stupid people who think they know it all who are the most annoying in real life.
