Michael, I need you to mow the lawn. You mean, you need to trust a child to operate sharp, wildly spinning blade without cutting off his foot. You want the children you're raising to be smart... Just not too smart.
Reminds me of when we considered sending one of our sons to military school. He knew of one easy way to get expelled from it..His answer was: OK, send me, but all your money will go up in smoke..Guess who went to public school. And he never became a smoker.
I started helping with the yard work at 9 or 10 with as gas mower. By 13 I was doing most of it. By 15 or so, pretty much all. And, that was back when the lawn mowers didn’t have a deadman switch on them. Once you turned it on, it stayed on until you turned it off. Keep an eye on him at first, Grandma, but make him get his tushie off the couch and help (and his sister too).
I know someone who cut off a couple of toes. Same kind of mower. no kill switch. was going up an incline and the handle broke. mower rolled downhill and onto his foot.

Just tell him to keep his feet out of the blades and get on with it, Kate. He really won’t cut off a foot, or even a toe, to make his point.
