I can relate to that one. I was not a good baseball player in little league. But during a close game, I caught a line drive that was hit by the other teams star. It was the third out at the bottom of the 9th and my catch won the game. I went from being the butt of jokes to a hero, but only for a minute. My hand hurt for a week as I caught it in the palm, not the webbing of my glove, but that one short moment of glory was worth it.
Tom Brady was #199 in the draft that year. Six other QBs were drafted before him. How many of them have 6 Superb Owl rings and are still playing? None. All are out of football. Tom’s hometown 49ers drafted Gino Carmazzi out of Hofstra. Gino Carmazzi never played in an NFL game, spending two years on the 49ers’ practice squad and later playing in the World League of American Football and in the Canadian Football League. He recently described himself to ESPN as a “yoga-practicing farmer” in California who has five goats and does not own a TV.
In elementary school I was always the last one picked for any team, one day when I was in 4th grade the 5th and 6th graders were on a field trip. As usual I was picked last for the baseball team, when I came up to bat the pitcher was so sure that I couldn’t hit the ball that he signalled everyone to move in. The first pitch was so wide I didn’t even swing at it, the second pitch was right where I wanted it, I swung and hit the ball solid for a homerun. For the next few days I wasn’t picked last, but no one trusted me with another good pitch so it wasn’t long before I dropped back to last picked.
I remember playing kickball and I had strong legs from all the walking and running and other sports me and my buddy Patrick played. So when these older kids asked if we wanted to play kick ball against them; me and Patrick said sure. Little did they know I had very strong legs and I kicked the ball so far and right over all their heads they just stood there with shocked looks on their faces and said OK we’ll see ya…..and left LOL

Picking teams has always been done wrong.. Each captain should pick the opposing team.
