I bought a map because the town I was going to visit had years of roadwork and what my old map wasn’t missing was wrong. I bought a new map and it was the old map. I wrote a letter of concern and complaint, They reflew the camera and created a new map and sent me a letter of thanks for informing them and one of the new maps.
Back in the very olden days the service stations all had their own complimentary maps and each oil company had its own pattern of map folding and that is a source for many old jokes in old movies and tv shows. It’s all pretty easy once you take your time when first refolding the darn things.
The problem with those maps is there’s a lot lag time between when the map got printed and when the roads have changed. Even Google maps can’t keep up with it.

Assuming your map is up to date it is the perfect way to travel. Mine got me to Binghamton and back a couple of times.

I still have a Rand McNally atlas of the US in my car, because technology is not infallible.

I always asked for the address and then directions….I was not good with maps.

Hard to believe that anyone under the age of 29 has never lived in a world without smartphones. Although, admittedly, the first one didn’t have maps.

I have a GPS and a map in my car, just in care the electronics decide it is a good time to ditch me in the middle of nowhere.

Maps are great for planning, but not so good for telling you where you are.

The map works but it requires a functioning mind to operate it.

And let’s not forget the sense of accomplishment you get after getting it folded back up.

The biggest problem with maps is that they are difficult (and dangerous) to check while driving. They are handy when flying VFR, though.

Kids will never know the frustration of trying to fold up a travel map back into its original shape.
