Oh, there is a whole pile of things that can be blamed before he ever gets to a mirror or looks at the child.

Nailed….

Why would he even believe it? Everyone is told that they’ll be great parents and that their children are miracles and gifts from god. Seriously, is anyone ever told that they’d be terrible parents and should avoid having kids at all costs?

Or been told that they are responsible for making their children capable of being educated!?!?!? If you constantly moan about how awful school was, how you hated every class & how glad you were to get out of that prison, Do Not expect your children to do any better. And don’t overload them with after-school activities that give them no time for homework, or to just be kids. Or let them have at video games & electronic devices all the time. In other words: Pay. Real. Attention. To. Your. Kids.

Anyone else notice that he seems to shrink between panel 1 and panel 3?
