But rain is exactly how they got out of the chalk drawings in “Mary Poppins”. The chalk washed away and they were left behind, back to their normal selves (although a bit damp).

Cutiepie29 - finally someone else who remembers Mary Poppins! But they were their full selves whereas Heart and Dean are made of chalk, hence the crisis :-)

I was “too old” to see Mary Poppins the first time around. I didn’t know what I missed for years.

Are you sure that’s rain and not the neighbor’s dog?

Alternate universes of fantasy must remain consistent in order for the reader to maintain his sense of wonder. (My old Agent on my rejected SS)

    Ur-inalysis may be correct, Lew.

The books are far better. Actually as a mother I found the movie rather offensive in its portrayal of poor discipline and encouragement of ill manners. But then Disney always did manage to sugar-coat everything into nauseatingly sweet fluff.

Great! The portal gonna get washed away and they’re gonna be stuck in that stupid chalk drawing for another two weeks!

I only saw Mary Poppins once when I was seven , the only thing I took away with it was the ability to be offended when Brits say Yanks think that Dick Van Dyke’s cockney accent was accurate . I thoughtthey were all supposed to be Canadian . The cheap drugs there would explain everything that happens in that movie , even the bank crash could be symbolic of an addict reaching a new low .

This might actually be the longest running story in this strip so far. And it’s about chalk.
