And now a special message from Dean, in response to George Lucas once again altering the "star wars" movies
Send George Lucas a message to stop messing with our childhood! Boycott the new "star wars" blu ray release!
Lucas has every right [literally] to alter his work. BUT it’s really never changing changing the fact, only 2 of the 6 were really good. AND the casting of some characters was just wrong.
Let’s see. All dailies last week were a regurgitation of strips from the week on 10/4/04, but altered, script or drawing or both. Given that, this is truly bizarre. MT can alter his art, but GL can’t???
I sooooo agree on this one! Lucas has done too much heartbreak already with a good story. Most of the biggest and true star wars fans I know hate Lucas….
Already bought it on release day and am so happy for it. However, I like the message and agree with it on the change. He could at least release all the other versions on bluray. …and finally give us the ROTS vhs to complete our collections.
I don’t see any overpowering reason to buy the latest release. I have the original VHS, the special edition VHS and the DVD’s. I think I’ve given Mr. Lucas enough of my money when it comes to buying the same movies. However, I wouldn’t turn them down as a gift.
I know a lot of people who are boycotting the Blu-Ray version. What I don’t understand is if he’s releasing them just for the money, why is he changing them? I know that had they at least offered the original version on Blu-Ray along side the “revamped” versions, I probably would have bought the original version. Why take AWAY the opportunity for long-time fans to have the version they remember from the theater?
I don’t like the idea of adding so much to start with, but some of the additions they made the last time around (sigh) were actually pretty good… adding a “lost scene” with Jabba in A New Hope was pretty interesting. Now, making the Ewoks blink… I’m not sure what to think about that…
Return to the mid 1970’s. You want to make a movie, but the special effects technology you need for the movie you want to make hasn’t yet been invented. But, even though you make compromises, it turns out to be wildly successful. So you spend millions to have that technology for the next film. That’s pretty much what GL did. I suggest you read the “spend millions” article to get the details of what benefits ensued. The technology continued to evolve as films were released, and maybe it eats at you that the earlier ones could have been better with the current technology. You think maybe that’s why he altered them? Duh.
Mark Tatulli, like most artists, can improve his old strips, and that’s the last thing anybody would complain about. Maybe George Lucas could improve his old movies, too (especially the ones that suck), but is that what he’s doing?-Cougar :{)
Will any of our descendents EVER be ale to experience the astonishment the audience felt the first time we saw Jabba the Hut in “Return of the Jedi”? NOOOOOOO… Lucas jusr HAD to insert additional footage of Jabba into “New Hope”. Lucas HAD to make Greedo shoot first…And unless some one is raised on the “Special Original Edition” of the original trilogy, NO ONE will ever be surprised to learn the identity of Luke’s father!!!
I have the VHS versions and if it wasn’t for what they did to the “special edition” versions, i would have bought the DVDs. What is so wrong with the movie that they need to keep changing it?

ghostkeeper is right. However, we have the VHS tapes of the original three, and we’re not buying the newer versions.

Using comic strips as a soapbox for your real-life opinions is such a lousy idea.
