For several days I’ve been wondering what that is on the back of Heart’s Mom’s head? Has she had an alien symbiot clamped onto her neck like on Falling Skies?

Yeah, I have been wondering the same thing, I want to believe it is a hair clamp to keep the hair in place while she sleeps.
