Had a neighbor’s cat like that. Kept sneaking into my truck to go for rides (yes, strange cat).
You can imagine my surprise the first time when I was on my way to work, driving at night, when suddenly this dark furry blob emerges from under your seat and gets on your pants leg to say hello. After that, I was very careful to check for extra passengers.
Book stores traditionally had a cat. Now that the corporations have abolished free enterprise bookstores, maybe libraries can continue the custom – until the corporations take over openly and abolish reading (see Fahrenheit 451).

Honest, librarian, Dean didn’t smuggle a cat in on purpose.

My brother had a cat that followed him during his newspaper route, then would get a free ride home in his newspaper sack.

Night-Gaunt49: And probably a few others. The important thing is that they are considered dystopian for that specific reason.
