C.S.Lewis, in a rather sexist novel (that doesn’t narrow it down much) has a man explaining that women just won’t use nouns. "A man would say, ‘put this bowl in the larger bowl in the left-hand cupboard.’ While a woman says: ‘Put this in that in there.’ ‘Where?’, you ask. ‘In THERE’, she’ll answer.

This is why, children, you should always know the phrase “a place for everything and everything in its place.”

Whenever I’m visiting my parents’ hometown and ask mom for directions, she always come with something like this: “oh, it’s right next to the store with a lady on a blue dress”, or “turn left at the house with a barking dog” ????

To chassimmons: Are you referring to CS Lewis’ “That Hideous Strength”?

my dad keeps complaining when i use the word thingy when i’ve lost the noun in question. although, i suspect this is because he realizes i picked the habit up from my ex, who has sunk in status at this point from persona non grata, to ranking somewhere between voldemort and the devil incarnate.

One of my ex-girfriends, when i’d ask her if she’d seen where a misplaced item was, she’d reply, “it’s right where you left it..” After about nine different circumstances, the 10th time she said that, i gave her a long, baleful stare, and she stopped saying that.
