Leftover cold pizza isn’t THAT bad really.

At least Heart’s school is honest about the menu. BTW, nowadays a lot of the schools, at least here in FL, have contracted with Domino’s, Pizza Hut or Papa Johns to sell their pizza at middle and high school. I am guessing it is better than the rectangular “pizza” which I remember from middle school (Florida, late ‘70s) which made that old Chef Boyardee cheese pizza out of a box look and taste like a culinary masterpiece. Leftover pizza may not be too bad Heart but I am sure Mom’s turkey sandwich is great as well!

Yeah, I brown bagged it often until my sophomore year, then every day it was the same thing—a questionable burger, a Coke, and a bag of chips from the “quick eats” part of the cafeteria.

In the middle of my high school career, they put in two sugared drink vending machines in the gymnasium hall. District regulations prohibited them from selling carbonated beverages, but flat sugary drinks were okay. I later moved to a different district and they had no problem selling soda in machines.

Chewy lasagna? How old is that stuff, and fizz less soda means it’s been opened.

Is that exclamation point at the end of “leftover day” really warranted?

Back in the last century, the cafeteria in my Phildelphia public elementary school would serve bologna sandwiches on buttered white bread. I think that might qualify as torture….

My current school does serve leftovers, but only the day after. But I worked at a sleepaway camp that saved money by having every Friday be leftover day. We presented it to the kids as “you get to eat all your favorites again”, but everyone knew it sucked.

With me, EVERYTHING was better than Mom’s swimming cheese sandwiches.
