And don’t forget the fact that it comes in contact with the parts that SHOULDNT normally see the light of day…. those parts may be clean, but it seems to be on the same basis like how we really SHOULD wash our hands after using the restroom….. not to mention the bits of debris and other unseen stuff as mentioned in the comments above ( I guess it also brings peace of mind to some people as well as sanitization, and is considered polite….)
