No, it hasn’t been an honor. It’s been a privilege. Misuse of the word honor is rampant.
When you honor someone, you express high admiration for them, regarding them as above your level. When you are honored by some one, they express high admiration for you, treating you as above their level. When you feel that someone at a higher level has generously treated you well even though you’re not at their level, you feel privileged to have been so treated, not honored; you’re acknowledging and appreciating their admired superiority.
