Mortimer is friendly to those posing no threat to those he loves.

Our first Sheltie loved Mailman Frank. He just didn’t like Frank’s truck. Since our critter was trained not to set foot over the curb, he would run along the edge of the street barking, until Frank parked his truck, got out and scratched his ears.

Some carriers give treats to dogs but Postal policy forbids the practice. If a different carrier works that route the dogs can become aggressive at the lack of the expected treat.

A dog and a mailman friends? Doesn’t this violate the laws of nature?

None of my dogs have ever meet a mail carrier. Carrier outside, dogs inside or in the back yard.

It’s the concept of “sleeping with the enemy”.

How on earth could Mortimer get used to a man in a uniform coming to that house?!

My parents were best friends with the mailman and his wife. When they came over socially, our 2 dachshunds fell over each other in joy welcoming them. When he delivered the mail, they barked their heads off at him, even if he spoke to them or put his hand by the gate so that they could smell him.

Our relief postal worker leaves milkbones in the mailbox for our dog. If she has a package and brings it to the door, she brings him the treats. He LOVES her.
