Cuco: Welcome to the new La Cucaracha Inc. headquarters! Today we'll be answering more supportive fan mail. Dear cartoonist, why is it that every new comic strip is chosen to appeal to only one demographic group? Don't you think a comic strip should be judged only on the quality of its humor and not whether is appeals to a minority demographic....like divorced, bilingual, one-legged nurses from east L.A.? Steve Pasty, Nibletvill, Ohio. Dear Reader: If only that were true, today's more diverse comics reflect a modern notion of "broad appeal," Unfortunately, some existing strips with "broad appeal" are so old and entrenched that they stifle the growth of new strips. Also, it's funny you did not complain about the lack of variety or humor in today's non-minority comic strips. Although, you did remember to include your comic strip submission, "Caucasian cockroach." We'll get back to you on that.
