As much as we mock it, and we should, this is so incredibly dangerous and destructive. This is now the most powerful man in the world. He can order military strikes because he feels like it. He’s already having his commanders draw up plans for striking against North Korea and Iran, which would lead to catastrophe. He has set about destroying the knowledge infrastructure that will help us fight climate change. He is truly, with no hyperbole at all, leading us down a path of widespread suffering and destruction.
And people are waking up to this. Just yesterday, in a deep-red Kansas district that Trump won by 27%, the GOP candidate for the US House only won by 7% against a largely unknown, underfunded Democrat. That’s a tumble of 20%. If we can hold on for two years—a stretch, I know—we may just begin to move the government back from its absolute insanity. If the 20% percent swing were to hold in the next election, the House Republican majority will be crushed. And likely in the Senate too.
