My parents were planning on naming me after my paternal grandfather, but when I was born, my Mom changed her mind. Five months later, the birth certificate was amended. I hope they had my name before then and it just took that long to make it official. BTW, my middle name was his first, Sherman.

I don’t actually have a name of my own. I’ve got one that’s been passed down for at least eight generations. I kinda hate my “name,” but never quite got around to changing it, though I’ve used assorted aliases for some of the things I do. Improv saved me, since I can be several different people with several different names each time I perform…

    “Mark!”, he exclaimed.

Mark never did figure out exactly who he is.

Is there any age at which someone is old enough to choose a name that will define him/her for the rest of his/her natural life, throughout all the changes and evolutions that will occur? Names for people (and other animals) are arbitrary symbols, unless we set up a system wherein they can change repeatedly at short notice.

For his sixteenth birthday, a guy I went to high school with received a trip to court to legally change his first name from “Hassler” to “Steve”

I worked with a woman who swore by numerology and said adding one extra letter to her name changed her life for the better. ??
