They’re eating what scavenging birds eat. Dead things. It sounds yucky, but it’s nature’s way of getting rid of dead things. After the birds eat what they want, something else will get some of it. Maggots and beetles will eat some and eventually the bones will be the only thing left. After a long period of time those will be gone unless they’re carried off by an animal.
