We stopped having Christmas with his sister and her family– his only relatives – a few years ago (and even more so during the pandemic) and I am Jewish, so – like our Thanksgiving dinners it is just the two of us as my mom had been going to my sister’s house, now stays at her assisted living residence due to Covid.
We have the last of the 20 lb turkey he bought for Thanksgiving in the freezer waiting for us to finish it and now I will be cooking a 15 lb ham for Christmas, still for the two of us.
No relatives, no arguments, no fighting – no Covid and a quick ending to the soup, main course, side dishes meal. What are the chances my mom will call exactly as we sit down to eat as she did at Thanksgiving? No egg nog, no alcohol, minimal dessert which is eaten hours later instead of normal pre-bed nightly snack. Only gifts are whatever husband bought himself – this year 2 external hard drives, no gifts for me.
