In Iceland, the traffic laws state that a car that comes from the right has the right of way. There’s a regulation that says that cars on the inside lane of a traffic circle have the right of way. Because our traffic circles go counter-clockwise, the outside lane is on the right. There was an accident on a traffic circle once, and the insurance company pointed out that, when they conflict with each other, laws have precedence over regulations, and the car on the outer lane had the right of way.

Americans, don’t know how to properly use a roundabout and they think they have a healthcare system.

We actually have a nearby subdivision that’s building a few of them (to replace “normal” intersections). Why, I have no idea.

You can’t “get trapped” in the inside lane because you have the right of way – just move out.

they built a handful of real simple roundabouts in our area, and it’s funny (or maybe not so funny) how some people just can’t seem to figure it out…

A number of years ago, in the Milwaukee area the state DOT decided to put in a roundabout. It was designed on computer in Madison Wisconsin office and eventually built. Big problem, nobody studied the type of traffic that used the roads. Large company with earth scrapers and other heavy construction equipment used the roads. With low clearance trailers were ripping into the curbs. Redesign and more money spent.

I hate those things. They seem to be growing in popularity in the US, and I don’t know why.
