When it comes to the Viet Nam war, I respect those who took a stand against it, as well as those who served. Those who believed it was wrong to be there and were forced to flee made as difficult a choice as any others. The only villains were the violent protesters and those who blamed the soldiers for going.
Of course, I dodged the Draft for Vietnam…by ENLISTING in the Navy. Unlike the fat orange COWARD AND TRAITOR who had his daddy PAY a “Doctor” for a fake deferment.
The weird thing about using Clinton as the bogeyman for this is that he did not dodge the draft. He got legal deferments and followed all the rules that the federal government established. Trump, on the other hand, bought his way out.
It’s one thing to dodge the draft, but you take it to a whole other level when you denigrate those who did serve and get captured or wounded or killed to preserve the freedoms that too many of us take for granted. Patriot is NOT the word that I would use to portray someone like that or anyone who supports them.
I was an Air Force pilot and we were told to take our uniforms off immediately when hitting the states due to demonstrations. They said that we would be called baby killers and other derogatory names and even spat on. I couldn’t believe how hostile people were to us when we did get home. Welcome home GI’s …. thanks for serving your country and risking your life. What crap was that!! How things have changed. Now everyone is a hero.
Well, this was certainly timely. Clinton hasn’t been president for 25 years and there hasn’t been a draft for longer than that. But, just keep mailing them in.
Wonder how many of the these fine commenters have served in a branch of the military? If they haven’t, sort of makes them hypocrites for bashing others.
The best excuse I have heard for Trump’s draft dodging is that the time he spent in military school (placed there by his father because he was such a screw-up) counted as military service.
Cowards dodged the draft and abandoned their country by going to Canada, Sweden, etc. Loyal Americans that were opposed to the war refused to serve in the military but stayed in the US and accepted prison as a result of their protest. The only ones to receive amnesty were the deserters.
I think the draft dodgers should be honored. We had no business bombing villages and killing people in Vietnam. We bought freedom for no one. We brought dishonor onto ourselves.
Let’s not overlook John Kerry’s famous advice/comments about those that join the military. Most of the current politicians, tried to avoid the draft in one way or another, as pointed out in the above comments.
I always think of Trump serving and the end of Animal House where they update the whereabouts of the “people” in the movie especially Douglas Neidermeyer.

During the 70s, there was a Phoenix cab driver who wanted to build a memorial to Viet Nam War protesters. I wonder what ever happened to him.

Where’s Ted Nugent? He’s a legend among draft dodgers! And Donald Trump with his classic ‘bone spurs’?
