On a serious note, I’d thought of using the new collision avoidance systems to prevent hitting your garage door. Part of the system would be installed on the door, and would signal the car to slow or stop if the door wasn’t completely open.
So… He backs up to open the door and, when he pulls forward to park in the garage, the door lowers and either prevents him or he has to drive through the door. When attempting to exit from the inside of the garage, you have to drive through the garage door before getting to the point where the opening mechanism begins to do it’s job. Sounds a lot like it was designed by the government.

Great! I’ll just honk the horn and you run out and hook it up every time I need it!

Hamsters and gerbils? You’re not thinking big enough. Try mustangs and jaguars.

Maybe. But what happens when he tries to drive inside?

And this is why you are an insurance salesman and not an engineer.

Isn’t it easier to leave the door open? I mean It is a lot of work mashing that button.

I had a cousin like this guy. Once tried to build a soap box type racer by tying the wheels on with clothesline rope.
