My cousin raises chickens more for the eggs and as pets. She has a name for every one of her chickens. You don’t give names to chickens you intend on having for dinner.
She can also tell you which hen laid what egg. None of us have ever challenged her on this.
About two decades ago, during one of my bouts with unemployment, I visited them and worked as a farm hand. I helped them build a chicken coop. It was a 12 × 12 building that we dubbed, “Le Poulet Challet.”
Some friends of mine had a small farm in southern Delaware. They didn’t name the hens, but the roosters got names like Cacciatore, Paprikash, Parmigiana, and Stir Fry.
