One of the most difficult transitions for parents is realizing that as they grow up kids stop participating in annual family activities. It will not be long before many branches of their family show up to the get together without their offspring until the kids become adults themselves and old enough to once again be interested.

Yup. Had to do those things for years. Going to university on the other side of the continent was liberating.
