As Mr.F checks her essay, Tiffany asks, "You've never been married, have you, Mr. Fogarty? Wouldn't you like to have a wife and a family? Isn't there anyone special in your life?" Mr. F, annoyed, says, "Tiffany, I do not appreciate this invasion into my private affairs. It's completely inappropriate. Understood?" Tiffany replies, "Ok. Fine. Sorry." There is silence as Mr. F continues to check the essay, and Tiffany looks down at the ground. Tiffany looks over at Mr. F as he answers, "No, yes and no."
Aren’t those all double negatives? If so, it was REALLY “Yes, no, and yes.” Unless fogarty accounted for the double negatives in his answer, in which case…..
