Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for July 16, 2006
Transcript:
"I'm off to the mall." "Uh, aren't those earrings a bit much?" "Is that a question or a comment?" "I'm just wondering if you're aware of how you look, that's all." "Yes, mother, I am aware. I actually know how to use a mirror." "Why are you being defensive?" "Because you criticize me all the time!" "I do not! You just take everything I say as a criticism." "Isn't that a criticism?" "Fine. Forget it. If you're happy with how you look-" "I am, thank you." "Luann, those earrings are a bit much." "Really? I'll go change."

C’mon… the earrings? Before I developed a metal allergy, big funky earrings were my trademark! If I could find a way to wear them now, I would. And I was wearing them right around this time period.

They annoy me now, but I loved big, silly earrings when I was 16.(They annoy me on me. They can still be perfectly fun on other people.)

Typical teenager mentality. If a statement comes from a parent, it doesn’t count for anything. But if the EXACT same thing comes from somebody else, then the statement is taken seriously. I see it every day from my step-daughter. She doesn’t listen to us, but when told the same thing by somebody else, all of a sudden it is a good suggestion to be paid attention to.
