Can Gunther deal with Rosa Romance without having an aneurysm?

Gunther, you are so cute! Maybe that’s why Rosa likes you – you swoon in her presence. Nothing better than that for a girl!

I’m not even sure what Luann was supposed to mean by liking him “in ways no one ever will.” If she meant liking him in a completely unreciprocated, kind of manipulative way; yeah, I guess she has a point. I can’t imagine how he’d find someone who has that kind of affection (or rather lack of) for him and keep it up if for years. I dunno, I just can’t help but read it as Luann trying to confuse the guy more.

Now now Gunther, don’t get cold feet.

Lots of women have Plan Bs for when their fantasies of landing that hunk don’t work out. It’s called settling and Luann is doomed to do so in the end. Never let go, Greg!

C’mon, Gunther, it’s time for your first real romance. And Rosa is a very nice girl: no matter how awkward you are, she won’t embarrass you!

I’m beginning to suspect Gunther is gay and confused. Rosa is as a sure a thing as he can hope for. Gunther looks up he is about to throw up.

So, Luann says to Gunth, in so many words, “I LOVE You but NOT enough for Romance.”

How come when a gal tells a guy THAT, He HAS to Accept it and MOVE ON.

But when a Guy (Especially a HANDSOME one) tells a Gal THAT, she’s upset, depressed, and wonders what WRONG with her? Then later runs crying to her friends and her mom, who will in many cases encourage her to KEEP trying?

Women, haven’t you ever met a guy that you really liked, but there was just no romance there no matter how hard you tried? An odd thing happens, you begin to look at them not just as a friend but as family. You begin to protect them and worry about them in an odd big sister/mother kind of way. You see all their faults but you see a wonderful side of them that most others don’t. I know that is what Luann meant. I’ve had it happen to me.

Great one Gregg this is going to fun to read. Can’t wait until tomorrow.

At first I thought, “Cool, Gunther’s gay.” But then I started to think about it, and I don’t think he is. He’s expressed interest in the opposite sex in the past, right?

Nah… Gunth is just too used to dealing with Luanne. Now he’s got real attention. Let’s see how he handles it. Good time to grow a pair, if he ever will. We’ll see. We’ll also see if Greg starts letting his male characters be a little more respectable. I’m tired of all these Beta Males and a thuggish Dirk. Do better, Evans. Or is this really Brenda Starr?

There are probably hundreds of gay men who have been reading this strip for years and marveling at how closely Gunther matches their own teenage experience. We don’t yet know how Gunther’s situation is going to play out, but I will guarantee you one thing: you knew at least one gay guy in high school who was exactly like him.

There’s a big difference between liking you as a great friend that will never let you down and liking you enough to want to kiss you… I’ve been on both sides of that, sadly enough. :-s

Rosa is gonna be good for Gunth. He needs someone to feel positive as a male to grow up.

I’m proud of Luann. I was SURE she was going to try to prevent them from dating in a fit of jealousy. Perhaps her “non-dates” with Quill have enabled her to finally let Gunther go… he deserves someone who won’t lead him on!

I"m thinking maybe Gunther is going to tell Luann, not that he’s gay, but that he’s a virgin. And the gigantic “DUH” that will be the likely response will shatter windows for blocks around.

Some people must be really obsessed to imagine that a cartoon character or a couple of puppets are gay based on not the slightest shred of evidence.

When the strip returns to sex (not that the strip is ever far from it), then the strip is at its best.Gunther is not gay. He has a serious Oedipal complex. Indeed, he & his mother may have crossed the line, and he has shame comin’ out his ears.I trust that Rosa can help him with his problems.

I still don’t get how he could have gotten over luann so fast in favor of rosa if he liked luann that much and for that long.

Gunther’s pretty close to what I was in high school, except that he has skills in clothing construction. I’m straight, so don’t see any hints that he’s gay.Actually, the fact that he’s nervous about asking Rosa out suggests that he’s straight. If he were gay, that would be like asking a buddy out, no big deal.

i have a bit of difficulty in folks assuming (or to be generous, thinking) that gunther is gay. he had carried a torch for luann for a long time and since luann is female, that in and of itself precludes any idea of a tendency towards homosexuality.

Why does being shy around girls= gay? I know in our fast world of kids having kids its hard to believe that some guys are not born to chase tail. But honestly I know some of the sweetest geekiest guys that fumble around women. Its not that they arent attracted to them but its hard for them to feel comfortable and not intimidated by females due to insecurities. Thats what I see when I read Gunther’s words not that he doesnt like women just that he is shy and has a hard time facing his feelings.
