Toni: "No way we're getting Luann's letter back. These things are tamperproof"
Brad: "Yup"
Luann: "Pickup is 4 p.m. tomorrow. I could be here"
Brad: "And what tackle the mailman?"
Luann: "Maybe I'll use my feminine charms on him"
if Toni is right then she just has to explain the situation and the mail-person will understand the need to retrieve the letter, and the problem will be solved!!
Which, interestingly enough, is exactly what one of my friends said to me after an initially promising but ultimately disappointing chain of events at a bar a number of years back.
Not that this isn’t funny but it would have been better if the mailman was Dirk or even Gunther since some mail routes are reduced to part time these days.
Whoa. Luann actually looked sexy in the middle panel. Greg – you ought draw her like that more often. Unless the mail carrier is lesbian, she is not gonna get her letter back, and hopefully she will think on Toni’s nutty theory and decide not to act on it. Actually, I wish the cop from the day before yesterday was a female cop and wouldn’t be dissuaded by Toni…Toni would have been forced to abandon her stupid mission of retrieving the letter. But a female mail carrier just might throw a wrench in this crazy plot.
If the letter has a return address on it and Luann has an ID the letter carrier will probably give her the letter back. I’ve done that myself once retrieving a letter from the post office I thought better of.
Luann has a plan. And the outfit to implement it (tight sweater, tight jeans, and ten times her normal makeup, plus reeking of perfume). Too bad she didn’t know that her local mail carrier isn’t a mail man….
@J K Dirk has a criminal record and would never be hired by the post office. They do a background check akin to a security clearance on even contractors who work remotely.
The mail carrier can’t give the letter back. You have to go to the Post Office and fill out a ‘recall of mail’ form. You can’t simply hand mail back to a person.
WHY didn’t You USE those so-called “feminine charms” on Mr. Oz when he was HERE all This Time, Dummy? If You had, maybe You wouldn’t be here today with Your Butt STUCK in a Mailbox and ….., WHOAAAAAAAA Momma!!!CHECK the MAILBABE in Panel Three!!!!!
Yo, Honey I GOT a “Special Delivery” JUST for YOU!!!!!
I’ve had occasion to need to get a letter back. (No, not for this reason.) I asked the nice mail carrier if I could have it, please; identified it by description before she opened the box, so she knew it was really mine (in Luann’s case, “It’s addressed to Quinn ________ in Australia” would do fine), and they handed me my letter. No drama, no tampering needed.
rifframone – you are completely and utterly wrong here. Carriers can give you your letter back if you can prove it’s yours. There is no forms you have to fill out. We have done this many many times. I once had to get 30 letters back. I had proof that I worked for the company and he handed them all back to me.
This is very traditionally Tiffany-like behavior. But since it’s Luann doing it and not Tiffany, it’s probably going to be shown as totally ok and not end in complete humiliation as it would if Tiffany was the one trying to retrieve a letter, because Luann is apparently such a special special person, and anything she (or Brad or Toni) does is automatically golden. I’m sorry, but Toni is a terrible person for encouraging Luann to think that it’s okay to tamper with the mail and bully or bribe police and postal workers, Brad is a wimp for not standing up to Toni, and Luann is an idiot for listening to either of them in the first place.
“if the mail’man’ picks up at a spot so close to their house, at 4PM (and Luann knew that) then she also should have known that the ‘man’ wasn’t. "-Pickup time is posted on the box
I can actually hear the “wah-wah” music. But in all seriousness I’m sure mail carriers face this problem every day, as long as she has an ID that matches the return address she should be fine.
Well that was a fail.. guess she will have to live through it till Quill gets back to her with an answer. Which might either make him realize he does love her.. Or maybe think she is stalking him..
If it is a complete stranger asking the letter carrier to have the letter back, the letter carrier per regulation should direct them to the P.O. too fill out the recall forms, ID or no ID. If it is a postal customer of the letter carrier in which he/she has deliver to for years then maybe, but only if it had a return address. No return address,no return, no exceptions, but a smart letter carrier should aways say no but with a smile. These are not the times to lose your job.
According to USPS she just has to submit a 1509 form to the post master of the post office of mailing http://pe.usps.com/Archive/PDF/DMMArchive0810/D030.pdf
So much for that, unless the mail carrier has been there as well and feels sympathy for Luann. (She does look remarkably like Tiffany though, doesn’t she?)
I’ve dropped a letter that I wanted to amend in a box outside the Post Office and was able to get someone to open it and I got my letter. It’s really going to depend on the person you talk to.

I’m afraid her feminine charms are kind of like a nomad in the desert buying snow skis.

Oh, and Luann, honey? You might want to ease up on the perfume. You’re supposed to wear it, not marinate in it!

I never realized how much Luann looks like her mother.
rdv63 about 12 years ago
I’m thinking Luann spends so much time in the cyber world that she forgot to stamp the envelope. So the letter will come back, anyway.
Sean David about 12 years ago
Even if the mail carrier was MALE, this is not appripriate because Luann is NOT 18 years old. Can you say JAIL BAIT ?!?!?!

Luann is looking over 18 here! I would feel sorry for a guy who got busted for picking up a girl who looked like that.
