Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for October 14, 2012
Transcript:
Luann: "Bernice, do you think money buys happiness?" Bernice: "Depends. Money just buys stuff. Does stuff give you happiness?" Luann: "Not yet" Bernice: "Well, don't give up. You could be one cute pair of shoes away from total bliss" Luann: "That's what I thought the last time I bought cute shoes" Bernice: "At least you're making the mall merchants happy" Luann: "By giving 'em my money?" Bernice: "Yeah. So they can buy stuff"

Ah, consumerism at its finest.

Oh well…No cartoonist bats a 1000. This one was a ground ball to short. As this is a Sunday clip – he’s probably not going anywhere with it.

I am surprised that none of the stuff shown has been broken. My room needs a lot of stuff removed but even I don’t have things laying on the floor.

Economics. House Rules. The “stuff” of which dreams are made.Luann has helped enough.

simple economic theory. we work to buy stuff from people, they buy more stuff from other people who employ us. and, repeat. capitalism. stuff becomes more stuff. and, that leads us to an episode of hoarders.and. money buys happiness, ask the romneys.

I see Luann’s panties on the floor. I know many of us here are now ready to die.

Two quotes on this subject:`The best things in life are indeed free. Nevertheless, you need money to enjoy them.`Money cannot buy happiness. However, money can buy security. Even if you obtain security you may still be unhappy, but without security you will not be happy.

“Money Does Not BUY “Happiness.” “It DOES However, Make a DECENT Down Payment ON It.”
From the BOOK of Mordock Chapter 47, Verse 38beyondnow777 about 12 years ago
A lack of money certainly brings a great deal of unhappiness.

A lot of comments must have been removed..Happiness/unhappiness is achieved by your perception of events or situations. I can be totally happy by just being in the moment, which is never good or bad – it just IS.

Well…except for the laptop, earbuds, and the fact that Bernice is now on some kind of smartphone or e-reader instead of a magazine. The mess in Luann’s room is pretty much the same, though :)

I was gonna say the same thing, but there were laptops in the 80s. They were expensive as hell. CDs were introduced in 1982. But yeah, Bernice kinda spoiled the Reagan-era groove with the smartphone ;)

Seems to be a humongous shoe. If it was a guy’s room would there be a matching jock strap?

I do not believe money buys happiness, but if it’s used correctly, it can take away a lot of misery.

..no,but maybe rent....or long term lease....or short term lease....whatever..
steelersneo about 12 years ago
Money may not buy happiness but it can rent it for awhile.

I think this is another one that works on the merits of panel two, with its nasty, nasty array of stuff. The shoes: what’s with the clodhopper next to the pink high-heel? And those clothes-hangers: the stuff of nightmares.

Speaking of money, I hope the Sheriff gets some extra to color this strip.

Bernice must not really care. Even at that age, I’d be embarrassed to bring my close friends in. I always cleaned up before they did!
