Gunther: "So you pulled out Crystal's chair for her and she thought it was weird?" Knute: "Do you ever pull out Rosa's chair?" Gunther: "I do, yes. But I guess some girls don't like it. The "weaker sex" thing and all" Knute: "To be honest? I do it 'cuz it's fun to watch Crystal sit..."

If that’s why he’s doing it, he’d get a much better view by proffering his face as the chair.

So, “Gentleman” Knute is just another horny teen? Maybe. But he still seems to treat Crystal well, to his limited ability. Maybe he’s just saying this to impress Gunther and get macho points.
Bald fat and ugly about 12 years ago
He said he was a gentleman, not dead.

I thought it was going to be a another spoof on civil rights. Now that we know can we get back to Luann and the Aussie. Or Brad and Toni, or T.J. and Mizz Awful??
Ottodesu about 12 years ago
He’s not getting rude glimpse of anything, it is simply just as he says, it is fun to watch her sit. The same way that straight men like to watch women walk.Or stand.Or do just about anything.

It happened to my dad once when he travelled to the US to meet VIP, he spoke to a businesswoman and when going to lunch automatically held the door for her and held out her chair, thinking nothing of it. He was stunned when she said very coldly that had he been American he would have been in trouble, as he was a foreigner she forgave him but he shouldn’t think that it was going to sweeten her. That was 20 years ago, at 80 now he still hasn’t recovered from the shock.

Nobody ever said that a gentleman can’t take a personal interest in a lady’s physique. That is, after all, how we produce the next generation of ladies and gentleman. The point is to do so in a genuine, non-insulting way. Appreciate, don’t leer.

Look at it as a reward for being polite and helpful. My sweetie treats me like a lady because he knows I like it and he feels that way about me.
He looks at what he wants to see. If he holds the door or chair for you – he isn’t looking, his mind is sill on me. Sorry.
For the teens, it is positive reinforcement of a positive action. A simple learning technique.

At the least, Knute keeps hat on at dinner table, talks with his mouth full, is disrespectful to teachers and other adults, “accidently” walks into girls locker room, and pulls out chair to ogle Crystal’s bottom. Hardly seems like a Emily Post poster child candidate. Typical Evans ending. Zzzzzz
Angelalex242 about 12 years ago
Well, at least we know Gunther’s still getting a chance to pull out Rosa’s chair. So he hasn’t blown it with her. Good job, Gunther! And…yes, well. Even Sir Lancelot gazed a little too fixedly at the Queen’s Posterior back in King Arthur’s court. Can’t blame poor Knute.
Spooky D Cat about 12 years ago
Being a gentleman AND watching her sit. It’s win-win!

Well, I don’t listen to Rush Limbaugh and I apologize for offending you. It’s sad that out of my entire post, that’s all you got out of it". I hope you feel better soon.

“Girls are only weak because they haven’t trained their muscles. The ones who have can be quite strong.”-some females have more strength than some males. saying it is so because of training is beside the point. as a group, females tend to be weaker than males of the same age, all other factors being equal. It is silly to pretend otherwise just as it is silly to pretend strength makes one better or lesser than another. -We are different. —The differences are nice.

Have we gottrn tom the bottom of this?

That’s what’s known as “a posteriori” reasoning
Durak Premium Member about 12 years ago
So it turns out that Gunther is the real gentleman. And lighten up on Knute. He’s still a good guy, and this is just a comic strip.
tegm about 12 years ago
Thank you for at least acknowledging this point. It’s not that I don’t like it per se, it’s that I don’t see why it has to be about gender. Every time I ever hold a door open for a man, he will refuse to go through, like it’s somehow unmanly or something. So it’s not about niceness. It’s sexist.

I think it’s sweet. Doesn’t make us feel disempowered at all. Just makes us feel cared for and loved.
