Miss Phelps: "I love seeing this junior class preparing to take off into adulthood" Miss Phelps: "We educators are launchpads for students' futures. Doesn't that feel good, Mr. Fogarty?" Mr. Fogarty: "No. They get launched, I get burned and I'm still here"
ShagsCA almost 12 years ago
Only 1 more year before most are 18 and then we’ll see more adult situations…
Namrepus almost 12 years ago
Time to retire, Mr. Fogarty.
wiselad almost 12 years ago
does this means Ox is not a junior????
Mikeyj almost 12 years ago
Fogarty needs a haircut
Mikeyj almost 12 years ago
Look at Gunther’s expression of confusion… and Rosa looks as if the bombshell was never dropped! (The better to confuse all of us, I guess)
Mikeyj almost 12 years ago
Miss Phelps could sure use a “push-up” bra… Or perhaps an inflatable one 9_9

is that one dude TJ brother ? the one in shorts,2much teeth to gum^^No, that’s sk8rboi Knute, Pitt’s answer to Jeff Spicoli, from “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”
live2read almost 12 years ago
He’s probably like Mr. Vernon from “The Breakfast Club”: burned out from years of teaching young people who frustrate him.
Angelalex242 almost 12 years ago
What poor old Fogarty doesn’t realize is that nightgaunt is entirely correct. HE has the good paying job, compared to what the teens will get.
Gunther and Rosa are still close together, despite the ivy league convo.
Angelalex242 almost 12 years ago
Well, perhaps Gunther realizes he needs to retriple his academic efforts to get that full ride scholarship
porkerroy almost 12 years ago
Try teaching if u think it is easy!

Meanwhile, George Costanza hums “Proud Mary” while driving Fogarty’s old Chrysler LeBaron.
Sisyphos almost 12 years ago
One could choke on the saccharine cheerfulness of Phelps. I’m more in accord with Fogarty. But at least most of the juniors look as though they found something to interest them at the fair (or, in Gunther’s case, to worry him).
vwdualnomand almost 12 years ago
isn’t it a line goodbye, mr chips. teachers get older, but the students stay the same age.
crswest almost 12 years ago
They are not juniors in high school, the phrase is old. Meaning “young”. I miss intelligent comments. A “junior”French word intended
Mordock999 almost 12 years ago
Hey kids? You MIGHT want to take a GOOD look at Mr. Fog-Hat. For ALL of Your Giddy Optimism, MOST of You will end up in Thankless Deadend Jobs JUST like HIM. Except for Delta who will end up being a either a Lawyer or a Politician who PRETENDS to HELP the POOR while keeping Her foot on the Necks of Middle Class SHEEP.So be Warned Ye Budding Corporate Lackeys.
Oh Serving Wench? COFFEE! I’m feeling particularly EVIL at this moment….,
Mikeyj almost 12 years ago
oops, I was pretty sleepy last night, Luann began in 1985, not 1981… so, it’s 28 yrs, not 32
Mikeyj almost 12 years ago
They will eat Delta first, because she wants to “help people”.^^hahahaha
prrdh almost 12 years ago
Of course, they’ll use a Kanamit recipe.
Bandera_Ken almost 12 years ago
Time has speeded up a little in the Luann universe so they may only be juniors for the next three or four years. Unless this is their last year and they become seniors next fall. Then they’ll be seniors for three or four years.
JimT8 almost 12 years ago
The 1st group I mentioned would be on the left side of the curve and the other group on the right. Other students fill in the area between the two..Not sure you want to say it this way. The right side of a bell curve is the way down. You want to put the bright ones closer to the peak of the curve.

That is because Greg has never grasped the concept that people actually raise their toes while in stride. I have noticed over the years that he has always had his characters in this same manner of step, NEVER with the front heel on the ground with the toes up on the leading leg… ala here.
Sheriff Mordecai Premium Member almost 12 years ago
Schulz never grasped the concept that kids are more than a couple of heads tall.
libbydog almost 12 years ago
No, they need to be seniors soon if all this college talk is going on. But after a few years of being seniors, what happens then??
htownkev almost 12 years ago

Get in line Mr. Fogarty.

I do consider myself very lucky. My hubby was not my first, not by a long shot, but he was, for me, the best. I too had many hurts until I met him. Also I am at the age where a long term situation is not necessarily what I want but a “Good Dance Partner” wood be great!
kenhense almost 12 years ago
So Greg finally tells us how old they are. Pushing 18 but not there yet. Greg – please get them in college soon…so many more interesting options for arcs… Meanwhile we should reserve our most zingy expectations for Brad & Toni – and AE with TJ, or Dirk…or somebody…
TELawrence almost 12 years ago

So now they’re back to being juniors . . . another senior moment for Greg?

The yearly ‘progression rate’ in this strip, means that you must be at least 9 or 10 y o by now, Right?^^LOL , I hope so
twinsoniclab almost 12 years ago
Time moves slowly only sometimes. Brad’s trip through fire college went quickly, without his sister aging a bit! Oh, well, we have to suspend belief, it’s just a comic!
kenhense almost 12 years ago
I hope you’re wrong about Brad & Toni. On one Sunday – I hope Greg surprises us with a one framer: Brad & Toni snuggled on the sofa watching TV. Brad has a big smile on and Toni has a big shiny ring…

Futures:
Luann- Loving Wife to Gunther, thx to his HUGE salary, she follows her Mother’s footsteps and becomes a "Stay at home " Mom…Gunther and Luann have 2 children; a lumpy, ugly boy and a lumpy, whining, depressive daughter, with freckles & a pear-shaped head!Luann decides to be a working Mom (She stands in front of the local pizza parlour waving a sign) after all…just to get away from the kids!Gunther- Married to Luann, loves his kids, but, wonders how they came to be; makes a Bajillion $$$$ a year after discovering a new way to make non-fattening sugar, that also keeps teeth from decaying and cures acne! Gunther’s Mother moves in with the family (After Lu goes back to work) and becomes a kind of live-in Nanny, to her 2 lumpy Grandkids.Frank and Nancy- They grow old together , and thx to Greg’s “cartoon time” spans, live to the ripe old ages of 284 and 876, respectively. Puddles- Due to his own extraordinarily long life evolves…….. into PicachuShannon’s Dad (aka scumbucket ham actor)- gives up all rights to his Daughter to his sister Toni, leaves to work as an actor on a dinner cruise ship… is never seen againBernice- Can’t decide whether to be a psychologist or go back to her old dream of opening a vet clinic with the love of her life, Zane… decides to compromise and becomes a pet psychologist. (This is a real profession… they make millions off of gullible, but rich Hollywood pet owners, with more money than sense!) Unfortunately, her Fiance Zane, was run over by a garbage truck at the age of 28 and Bernice never marries.Delta- Lawyer, politician, 6 term President, Mother of 8 kids with her 4 husbands and social activist, Delta collapses (again) from overwork, and spends the last 15 years of her life in an asylum. Knute- Accidentally killed when his skateboard goes off the road , rolls over 5 times and lands in the ditch, during an illegal drag race! (Don’t drag race, unless you do it safely, at the racetrack kids) Video of his gory death, would be used in schools to teach skateboard safety to children, for several years to come!Aaron Hill- Still lives in Hawaii, rents sailboats and windsurfboads to tourists, married to one of the giant carved statues on Easter Island.Tiffany- After dancing for several years in “men’s clubs” all over LA., Tiff converts to “Scientology” and becomes Tom Cruise’s 5th Wife; they have a daughter together & name her “Gallstone”.Crystal- Lives in a clothing optional commune with her cat “Toby”, she makes a little money on the side weaving basketsFogarty & Phelps- They marry, quit their jobs and open a mini-Golf course, together, Fogarty spends HOURS, everyday, sitting in place, watching the blades on the little windmill turn.Brad & Toni- They marry the summer of 2013, adopt Shannon, and, surprise LEV by giving Shannon 15 brothers and sisters , all of them become firepersons, in due time, other than Shannon, who becomes a Kindergarten teacher.TJ- After Brad & Toni marry, he lives alone in the rental, then, surprises everyone by marrying popular local Teacher Shannon, on her 25th birthday, she quits her job and they live off TJ’s trust fund, for the rest of their lives. Quill- is carried off, into the outback, by a croccodile, at the age of 23, and is never seen again

What strip was it that made you think Greg “made it clear Luann and her friends were seniors and not juniors.”? I’ve been reading this comic for years and I never thought they were seniors. Got a date for that strip?
Mikeyj almost 12 years ago
Now, that seens like a perfectly normal scenario, right, Luannites?^^Well, there is that little fact that Luann is based on his real life youngest daughter…. that makes it a little “uncomfortable”, doesn’t it?
AmyGrantfan51774 almost 12 years ago
why does Mr Fogarty have a bad attitude???!!!!!…my principal was never like that
Rockyhammock almost 12 years ago
Yep, one more year and “Welcome to the New Word”. Your private little city is going away.
donwestonmysteries almost 4 years ago
Yikes the writer forgot where he was going. At the beginning of the year Luann and friends were looking forward to their last year of high school. Now the teacher says they are Juniors?
ElJorro 4 months ago
Yeah, I can see those feelings seeping in to even the most well-intentioned educator. There are moving on and you are standing still.
