Heh. If Nancy were smart, she’d funnel all her future advice through Toni. ;)

When big sis senses it’s time for birth control, how will Toni approach Nancy? No one but Toni could woo Nancy into the pro/con decision talks.

I heard a really good analogy a while back of what a healthy relationship looks like:Consider a coming together: 1) There is a host, a guest and a candy bowl. The host keeps filling the bowl, the guest keeps taking it out. Eventually, the host gets tired of filling it and the relationship ends.2) There is a candy bowl and two guests. Pretty quickly, the bowl is empty. The party’s over.3) There is a candy bowl and two who enjoy playing host. The candy bowl stays full and so does the relationship.

I’ve seen this about both mothers and fathers: Children at 10 think, “My mother knows everything!”At 15, My mother doesn’t know some things. At 20, My mother doesn’t know anything! At 25, My mother is right sometimes. And at 30, Oh, if I had only listened to my mother!

My daughter was a “rebel without a pause” when she was a teenager but when she went out on her own, she did all the things that I said she should do and stopped doing the things I told her not to. I thought to myself, “I was in her head all along!”

Toni is correct and she’s been there. Luann is w-a-y too young. Live first. Good thing Quill was called away whenhe was. Things could have headed in the wrongdirection.

Baby Boomer here… Just HAD to get married to the “love of my life” when we were 21. Engaged at 19. Five years later, I was paying my ex-wife child support for our two-year-old. Took that lesson for me to learn that infatuation definitely does not equal love!

Children listen even if they don’t agree at first or ever..
My son said he was amazed to keep hearing our words coming out of his mouth.!
He also noted several people working under him yet older than he is haven’t been taught what we agree are basic things. He refers to raising his children.!Just so they eventually know what adults need to know.

I have to disagree with Toni. It is NOT a matter of age or time in life that makes a successful marriage. I’ve known plenty of High School marriages that succeeded. I’ve known plenty of 20’s, 30’s and 40’s marriages that failed.
No, what makes a marriage work is work and sacrifice. Each spouse has to give of themselves constantly. If you try to make it a 50-50 proposition, it will fail — guaranteed. In those cases you are too concerned about getting “your fair share”. You’re like the kid on Christmas morning counting the presents to make sure none of his siblings got more than he did. The successful marriages are 90-90 and above.
If each marriage partner is more concerned about the happiness of their spouse than their own, the marriage will be successful. As soon as either one of them or both starts being selfish and begins worrying more about their own happiness, that marriage is in trouble.
If you are not ready to give 100% to the marriage, then you are not ready for marriage. If you are, then you are. Period. If your intended is not, then don’t. Chances are he won’t change.

That would be great advice… IF Luann ever grew up or graduated from high school.

I’ve got little to no problem with Quill other than the fact I wish he would tell Tiffany once and for all to take a flying leap. Have you ever noticed that none of Luann’s boy interests ever seem to be willing to do that.

“…after all, everyone wants Tiffany don’t they?”
Not really. Some people just prefer Maryanne over Ginger. That doesn’t mean Tiff could ever accept that, though.

Toni’s advice is sound – but balance and common sense need to be in there, too. Luann is too young; but when you get into your 20’s don’t forsake the possibility of a lifelong, loving relationship by concentrating on money and material things.

“Then, at some point in their lives, they come around to the realization that you’re not so stupid…”++Yes. When they start having to pay their own bills. When they have to literally sing for their supper. From then on, the older they get the wiser their parents “get.”

Toni’s advice is about a decade old. Nowadays women are trying to do that and also have a kid before they reach 40. Freezing embryos is the new way to have it all.
Cofyjunky over 11 years ago
Teenagers are always gonna rebel against parents, even when the advice is the same. (As this moment between Toni and Luann) It seems more relatable when it comes from someone closer to their own age. It’s a typical thing, but it’s not bad. When I was in my mid-20s and living on my own, my teen brother’s teen girlfriend occasionally hung out with me at my apartment after school.(college) She’d ask my advice, or vent to me about things. I listened and didn’t judge, because I remembered what it was like to have her problems. I’d also learned how to handle them. There wasn’t such a wide, generational disconnect between us.

Does it ever seem to you that people obsessef with homosexuality are trying to come to terms with their own hidden/forbidden tendencies?.Even for straight people, it seems like they project themselves into the characters. I try to simply enjoy the story, even if I do get overly happy for their victories..(Years back I noticed AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN played the inspiring music whenever there was character development but sometimes it was played when the development wasn’t obvious. I kept watching until I understood. (Sometimes obsessive tendencies are useful.))

Kids listen to their parents if they respect their parents. If they see you act like nothing matters to you, then why would they take any advice from you? I have a teenage daughter and we have great respect for each other—thus we talk, we dont need others to talk for us.

“Nancy…”, “Frank…” “…Toni? .She will not have to worry about that until marriage…”.No need for delicacy Levi, excepting our younger readers we know Nancy’s already passed her ‘hot flashes’ stage..Frank? I don’t think he’s leaping for anything anymore..Toni? Sorry, I forgot about that “not until marriage” thing. My bad..Luann? Again, I let that ‘not until married’ thing slip my mind. I am going to preempt your inevitable declaration that Luann must “married AND over 21”..I regret any turbulence I’ve caused by my failure to remember “not until married”. I’ll do my best not to let it happen again..This sure does complicate achieving my Scout badge for “Reality” though – nudge, nudge, wink wink

@howtheduck:
First off: You must not be a dog owner. Dogs like to carry things around and chew on them. When they want to play ‘fetch’ or ‘catch’, they usually jump on you and push the stick or ball into your face.
Secondly: Puddles is following Luann and Toni, he isn’t in front of them. The fact that they are talking to each other and not all absorbed in the puppy doesn’t mean that they are just so caught up in their own lives that they aren’t paying attention to anyone else.
I guess your Mommy didn’t drop everything and wait on you hand and foot every time you waa-ed, huh. So sorry for you.

Since we are traveling down memory lane, I didn’t really date in High School. One or two girls on one or two dates max. I never really started dating until College.
I dated a number of girls there, but nothing seemed to click. Then in my Junior year I met a girl who didn’t want anything to do with boys. She had been royally burned several times and had sworn off men for the duration. As for myself, I wasn’t all that keen about her, either. But something clicked, and we got married.
This June will be our 35th anniversary, and we couldn’t be happier. :-)

“I pray that it does. It would be great, and I mean super fantastic magnificent if it does. I would like Toni to tell Luann, “Brad and I always use some type of protection.” If any type of comment like that is made, it will be all the evidence I need that they are indeed active together. I will admit wrongness and move on. Just as grand would be Toni saying, “Brad and I will eventually need some sort of pregnacy prevention, but we do not need it yet.” Again, this would be prove positive, this time in my favor.”
I couldn’t have said it better myself.

But of course there will be those who will insist that Toni is lying when she tell Luann that she and Brad don’t need protection yet.

‘true’—love are found in the apostle Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians…13:4-8…he lists 15 things which are part of “real” love…-Pretentious, since St. Paul was never married.
.Paul is referring to love of God. Pretentious for you to think otherwise.

Yes, yes and yes. I am fortunate to be retired..so my JRT is well trained…okay, sometimes…they are truly funny little dogs..she actually gets along with the cat…spending lots of training time when they are young,,,makes it much easier. If you don’t have time don’t get a JRT…they can be destructive when bored or not exercised.
