Toni: "Stop fidgeting, Shannon" Shannon: "I don't wanna be a clown! I wanna be a scary zombi!" Brad: "Clowns are WAY scarier than zombies" Shannon: "They are?" Brad: "Think about it. What's scarier: not having a nose or having one that's a huge red ball?" Shannon: "Is this really scarier?" Toni: "With the attitude? Yup" Brad: "I'm having a nightmare right now"

I have a family member who finds clowns to be genuinely scary to them. There are quite a few people out there who feel that way about them….

Toni and Brad do such good parenting don’t they?^^Deffinitely, Shanon , while still kind of hyper, has become a sweet loving little girl …most of the time. She’s my favorite character, cause she’s like a real child, a little spoiled, sometimes a bit of a brat, but deep down, a caring, intelligent little person. (In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that she’s more than just a little precocious!)
Mikeyj about 11 years ago
It’s fun to compare this thin, thoughtful and mature Brad with his former rude & selfish, potato-headed self; while Luann has changed a ton, Brad has actually evolved into a higher life form! :P
Mikeyj about 11 years ago
Wow this is getting ridiculous, I have every post on my screen 3 times! I really wish they’d fix this

Has Brad been reading Steven King’s IT?

I’ve always been amazed how many people are genuinely scared of clowns. There are plenty of real things in this world to be scared of like spiders…. and Obamacare.

Sorry, Brad, but not having a nose or having a red ball nose are both not as scary as having an upturned pig-snout nose.

Is Shannon going trick or treating, or is this costume for a Halloween party? Either way, she may the scariest clown in town!
Mordock999 Premium Member about 11 years ago
Hey Brad! You FORGOT the Most Important Part.
A Baseball Bat.
A “Scary Clown” with a Baseball Bat, Shannon.
Now Shannon REMEMBER: When They Answer the Door, You YELL at the TOP of Your Lungs:
“DEATH to the Dictatorship of the Bourgeoisie! Together, WE will CRUSH the Yellow IMPERIALIST Running Dogs!! DON’T Forget to Vote on November 5th Or ELSE, You Fascist Pigs!!! VIVA the NEO-REVOLUTION!!!”
Then as they STAND there STUNNED, Grab a WHOLE Bag of Reeces Cups. Then RUN.
Oh, and Don’t Forget to SMASH Their Jack-o’-Lanterns on the Way OUT.
Oh, LIGHTEN Up People! I was just Having a Wee Bit o’ Fun with the Little MONST…., Er I MEAN “Tyke”.

Anybody else remember the role of “clowns” in various Stephen King novels?
reedkomicks Premium Member about 11 years ago
She is actually an adorable little clown and will be fussed over by the neighbors.
TORAD_07 about 11 years ago
Actually Brad has a point. A lot of clowns can be scary as all get out! ;-) Consider the “Poltergeist” movie! 8-O Classic mechanism by “Devil’s Inc,” to use to lure in fresh victims.
So, we get to see Shannon (and Brad/Toni) in “Halloween” mode. More opportunity for Brad to show his parenting skills.
This is good.

Are clowns scary?
Why sho sherioush? LET ME PUT A SHMILE ON THAT FASHE…. </heath ledger, with accent>
Of course, Shannon is female, so you probably wanna dress her up as Harley Quinn instead, but…yeeeeeeah. A clown tends to be the single worst thing BATMAN knows of…
Willow Mt Lyon about 11 years ago
Awww, let her be a scary zombie clown.
Angelalex242 about 11 years ago
I think we can safely ignore the Brad is cherry idea. It might work if Levi could demonstrate Toni going to Church at least weekly, but we never see her do so. And without religious reasons, healthy young adults tend not to wait for marriage in today’s society.
ai_vin about 11 years ago
Rent her the movie “Killer Klowns From Outer Space”

> And without religious reasons, healthy young adults tend not to wait for marriage in today’s society.>“Some people choose a life of celibacy, and others have a life of celibacy thrust upon them.” – The SimpsonsBrad is Brad. That’s sufficient to keep Toni at bay.

beachlvr Premium Member about 11 years ago
why was shannon forced to be a clown? they should have let her be a zombie if that’s what she wanted.
seismic-2 Premium Member about 11 years ago
Toni was emotionally hurt by Dirk, and Brad is her “protective” rebound suitor, who makes her feel safe and comfortable after that painful experience. This is different from passion.
imbaldeagle about 11 years ago
For true scariness, you can’t beat Jack Nicholson’s “evil” Joker image.
arizonat about 11 years ago
She may endup following ICP. Now, that is scary.
imbaldeagle about 11 years ago
And NO WAY can Brad be having a nightmare with Toni curled up beside him. Frustrated, maybe, if that’s a nightmare.

“I cannot wait until Shannon knocks on a door, and when it opens there stands Ann.”
And I CAN’T Wait until there is a KNOCK on Toni’s door and it turns out to be Ann Eiffel, who NOW works for the local Social Services Agency.
Seems that Annie has “Concerns” about the Welfare of Little Shannon and has come to Place Her in a “Special” Foster Home.
Join us Now As Annie waves Her Mangled finger at Shannon and Chortles: “Do You REMEMBER Me, Kid?”

To Whom It May Concern: I was schooled a few days ago because I am overly concerned with facts, instead of just seeing everything as a joke. Hoping that you will excuse me all to hell, I’m going to offer a few facts in the middle of your jokes………………………………………………………………………………. Fact one: Foster care is not supposed to be the same thing as the juvenile justice system (which, itself, is a useless set of contradictory terms.) If a child is judged to be ‘delinquent’ or a danger to self or society, that child is NOT put in foster care. There are actual prisons for dangerous children that are supposed to be secure facilities. Theoretically, the kids are supposed to be getting some kind of training (other than in how to break the law more imaginatively or successfully), along with therapy that is supposed to help them stop attacking people, or what. ……………………………………………………………………………………..Fact two:The Foster Care system, on the other hand, is supposed to be a temporary refuge for children from abusive or neglectful homes, while the parents are either taught how to parent, or some other relative is located who can take care of the child. The reality is often otherwise; kids are either returned to abusive parents who finally kill them, or the kids end up permanently fostered until they ‘age out ’ of the system and are on their own. Often that means they end up living on the streets because they’ve been moved so often they rarely end up finishing school or learning a useful and legal skill. …………………………………………………………………..Fact three: a lot of abused or neglected kids end up doing what the shrinks call ‘acting out’ because of the way they’ve been treated. Acting out can include everything from mouthing off to adults to biting or hitting. But they aren’t usually in the danger class of those who end up in juvie.

And Brad, TG, and Toni will laugh like mad, and Shannon will be proud of herself. These are all such good people.
kenwarnerfordictator about 11 years ago
For once, I am on Shannon’s side. Within reason, kids should be allowed to choose their own Halloween costumes.

But then, I spent my childhood watching Bozo, so that may have helped. ^Like you, I also wasn’t afraid of seeing them…. but this person, who also grew up seeing clowns on TV, related that it was the smile (and feet) that was a little “too” big, and intimidating to them when they were young- and their young mind created reasons to fear that and stayed with them, growing up… but I think it’s the same way some people develop specific, selective fears (e.g. fear of closets, but not other closed spaces…. fear of open water, but not pool or bath water… fear of mice, but not fear of all rodents… fear of open heights, but not roller coasters, etc.) that don’t faze others, but hold something that that they perceive as unwelcome and dangerous, even when others can see it differently…

Well, to be honest, it can be traced even past that … that holiday is not the only manifestation of it…. the names and modern day aspects of it in western culture are traced to Celtic origins, but the actual event did not start from there….– All over the world, there are various aspects celebrated at different times and there are different features promoted in each one, but they can all be traced to another particular source, even further back…
JayBluE about 11 years ago
For instance, the Druidic practices, along with Central European/German/Nordic cultures found some of their traditions being traced to Roman practices (particularly the ones practiced in pagan, as it was termed, rites), and Roman and Greek traditions, along with Egyptian, Assyrian, and others, all trace their practices of “honoring the dead” and other traditions from a common source, as well…

Yeah, the Egyptians built pyramids, and the Mayans built pyramids, so clearly they both had to be taught how to do it by the same group of aliens. Because, you know, mere humans in two different places are too stupid to figure out how to stack bricks in layers. Case closed!

I’ve been reading this strip for the better part of ten years already. I have to say, the “story” that was just finished was the worst, most aimless story he ever attempted. it’s going way too far to say it was racist, or stereotypical, but attempting to set up kangaroos and other Aussie paraphernalia when you have someone who clearly not defined by that is just ignorant. That that wasn’t mentioned shows it was an ignorant move on the part of the writer. Besides that, it was baseless, and I’m glad he abandoned it.

I would think that hunter-gatherers would be dependent on the seasons as different plants are available at different times… Toni should have let Shannon pick her own costume… ;)
